Two Moreno Valley women arrested in connection with death of 84-year-old Long Beach woman

On Saturday, August 31st, 2019, at 8:00 AM, deputies from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station responded to Pechanga Casino located at 45000 Pechanga Parkway in Temecula to investigate a report of a female adult who was found unconscious in a bathroom. When deputies arrived at the casino they discovered the female adult, later identified as Afaf Anis Assad, an 84 year old from Long Beach, may have been the victim of an assault. Assad was transported to a local hospital and admitted with serious injuries. Southwest Station investigators identified two suspects believed to be involved in the crime. Investigators who had also been closely monitoring Assad’s medical status, learned she would likely die from her injuries. The Central Homicide Unit was notified and responded to assist with the investigation.

On 09/04/2019, Assad died from her injuries sustained in the incident. The suspects, Kimesha Williams, a 35 year old female from Moreno Valley andCandace Townsel, a 39 year old female, also from Moreno Valley, were arrested and have been charged with robbery and murder due to their involvement in Assad’s death. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department worked with the Pechanga Department of Public Safety during this on-going investigation.
