Meet the School Board Candidates for MVUSD, T.A. #5 (north of the freeway)

Moreno Valley voters will decide in May which of five candidates should sit on a board that oversees Riverside County’s third-largest school district.

The candidates for Moreno Valley Unified School District’s Trustee Area 5 are: John Ashley, a chief technology officer; Darrell A. Peeden, a youth policy advocate; Patricia Vargas Sanchez, executive secretary for Community Action Partnership; George F. Schoelles, a business owner; and Keri A. Then, a business teacher at the University of Redlands.

The Press Enterprise asked each candidate three questions.

Q: How would you boost student achievement and the number of Moreno Valley high school graduates who go on to college or trade school?

Q: How would you bring stability to a board that has seen turnover and drama in recent years? For example, a school board member resigned in August 2018 after being arrested.

Q: What is the biggest issue or challenge facing Moreno Valley schools and what specifically would you do to address it?

To read the candidates replies, you’ll have to go to the Press Enterprise’s website.
