Local Moval teens advocate for homeless shelter for teens on the streets

It’s not your typical class project.

Students at Moreno Valley’s Rising Stars Business Academyhave been studying homelessness, with an emphasis on children who sleep on the street. Now they’re circulating a petition to open a shelterin their hometown of about 210,000 to house homeless youth.

Every winter, Riverside County officials send hundreds of volunteersto conduct a countywide estimate of the homeless population and results are revealed in spring. Last year’s survey found that 11 percentof the people counted on the street in January 2018 were under 25.
