Jury recommends "Death Penalty" for murderer of Norma Lopez

Not really a surprise.

A Riverside County jury needed to deliberate for only one hour Wednesday, March 20, before deciding that Jesse Perez Torres should be executed for murdering Moreno Valley teenager Norma Lopezin 2010.

The same seven-man, five-woman jury on March 13 convicted Torres, 42, of murder with a special circumstance of kidnapping. That special circumstance made Torres eligible for the death penalty.

A special hearing will be held to fight this sentence because defense attorney says his client has a mental or intellectual disability that disqualifies him from receiving a death sentence.
