Fire crews contained the Morton fire to eight acres Friday in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, between Riverside and Moreno Valley, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Containment was reached shortly before 8:20 p.m., and all fire personnel cleared the scene, according to CalFire officials.
The blaze, which started at 4:20 p.m. Friday, July 6, was dubbed the Morton fire because it was near the intersection of Gernert and Morton roads. At 5:30 p.m., the fire was said to be holding at 10 acres, but that number was later reduced to eight.
At the fire’s peak, more than 100 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, which did not threaten any structures, fire officials said.
