She wasn’t abducted but drunk and getting a ride home, police say

A local story that made the LA news broadcasts was one where witnesses thought a young girl was getting abducted. That turned out not to be the case. Instead, she was drunk and getting a ride home. Here is the story.

Riverside police said Monday that what at first rub appeared might be an abduction involving a woman forced into the trunk of a car was not an abduction at all – detectives found out the woman was drunk and getting driven home.

Several calls of the possible abduction came in at around 7:35 p.m. Sunday, with witnesses saying they saw two men putting a girl, perhaps 10 to 15 years old, in the trunk of the car in the 6500 block of Doolittle Avenue.

Police put out a blurry surveillance video Monday morning in hopes of getting information from the public.

And in fact a tip from the public helped detectives find the three people involved.

Police learned the woman was visiting Riverside with her boyfriend and his family to go swimming. The woman became intoxicated.

On the ride home, she asked to get something out of the trunk.
